<image:title>Blog - How to take care of your teeth? - Plaques are good only when you win them and get to showcase them! Not all plaques are good though, especially the one that help hoard a ton of bacteria. You now know dental plaque, when not cleaned regularly paves the way for cavities. Similar build ups on the tongue act in the same way and have an added component of foul odour as well. So a new habit is in order. Clean your tongue every time you brush your teeth, that way you don’t have to remember to do it separately!</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - How to take care of your teeth? - Brushing twice day is hardly overrated, this simple habit will take you a long way when you want to maintain your oral hygiene! Most people know this but hardly incorporate it as a habit in their daily life. Every time you eat a layer of plaque forms on the tooth surface and this becomes a breeding ground for bacteria, and the only way to get rid of plaque is by mechanically cleaning it out, hence brushing twice a day is a must!</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - How to take care of your teeth? - A routine dental check up not only ensures a professional cleaning of the teeth and gums but if there’s any new problem developing, it gives you an opportunity to nip that problem in the bud. <image:title>Blog - How to take care of your teeth? - Tobacco chewing and/or cigarette smoking cause a multitude of problems ranging from decreased salivation, gum disease, increased staining of teeth and deposition of tartar. It also causes early mobility of teeth by reducing the bone supporting the teeth leading to early tooth loss. It also causes leukoplakia which is a whitish discolouration seen on the cheeks and gums and marks the early stages of oral cancer. Enough said, avoid tobacco in all forms if you want to have good oral health.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - How to take care of your teeth? - Flossing helps reach those areas of your teeth that aren’t often cleaned well with a tooth brush. Did you know maximum number of cavities happen on the contact surfaces of teeth that are adjacent to each other? Flossing not only helps clean these difficult to reach areas of the tooth but also help clean the area around the gums so you basically get two benefits in one go! So, floss once a day, every day!</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - How to take care of your teeth? - Processed food is almost always more agreeable to the taste buds but it’s most likely because of the high sugar and carbohydrate content present in them. The same two ingredients are also trouble for teeth because they increase the development of plaque and create an acidic environment causing demineralization of teeth and thereby making them prone to decay. Fibrous foods on the other hand act as natural cleansers and also increase salivary flow that acts not only to wash out food remnants from the mouth but also neutralizes the acid formed by sugary and starchy foods. So consciously make the change to a healthier diet and keep your teeth fit!</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Baby teeth are important!! - Primary teeth ward off the tongue from unduly pushing forward during swallowing. Early loss of primary teeth often causes excessive pushing of the tongue in the spaces left by a lost tooth that alters the balance of oral musculature. Over the years if your child retains the habit of pushing their tongue forward it may result in flaring and forward placement of the future permanent teeth. It may also result in an open bite of these teeth where the teeth fail to close over each other.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Baby teeth are important!! - Milk teeth act as natural space maintainers and preserve space for their permanent counterparts. If milk teeth are lost early, the space preserved by them is lost too and leading to inadequate space for eruption of the permanent teeth resulting in their overlap and crowding.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Baby teeth are important!! - Milk teeth allow the tongue to rest against them facilitating pronounciation of various syllables like ‘t’, ‘th’, ‘l’, ‘n’, ‘d’, ‘ch’. When they contact the lip they effect the pronounciation of ‘v’, ‘f’ etc. The space confinement provided by the teeth also helps pronounce ‘s’, ‘sh’ etc better preventing a lisp.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Baby teeth are important!! - Would you be able to flaunt your smile if your teeth were brownish with decay or crooked and overlapped? It’s the same for your little one. It is important to boost their concept of confidence and self-belief. If they can’t smile freely they might be extremely conscious about themselves and that may affect their self-esteem. So help your little one take care of their teeth and their joy will reflect through their smiles!</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Baby teeth are important!! - When a milk tooth gets decayed it is often ignored till it becomes painful. If you ignore this infection it slowly reaches the surrounding bone which hosts the permanent tooth bud. So now this simple decay of a tooth that is going to fall out becomes a source of infection for the upcoming permanent successor. If this infection persists, it may hamper mineralization of the permanent tooth which may erupt with white spots of brownish discolouration. This is known as Turner’s hypoplasia.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Baby teeth are important!! - We recently carried out a survey about importance of milk teeth on instagram and we were quite surprised with the poll results. 57% of the people who voted felt that they're not important! So then we got into thinking as to why people don’t know of their importance. Is it because they fall off eventually? Well yes, they do fall off but they play a vital role in your child’s developmental processes too. So you should know why they are important and how to care for them!</image:title>
<image:caption>The first most obvious reason to care for milk teeth is that they help your little one chew their food and digest it better which ensures a good nutritional supply for their growth. We’re sharing with you a few more important reasons too! A lot of ‘Did you know?’ coming your way!</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Fighting decay in baby teeth - Did you know that baby teeth go by many names like milk teeth, primary teeth or temporary teeth. Did you also know that they can get decayed too? Not just decayed, these baby teeth sometimes even get infected till the bone holding them and might affect their permanent successors. Now that is something we definitely don’t want so lets look at some preventive measures to keep decay at bay.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Fighting decay in baby teeth - This one is a no-brainer. From the time of eruption of the first tooth if a habit of brushing twice is inculcated, it will prevent decay not only in the milk teeth but will also protect the permanent teeth when they erupt. Mechanical cleaning of the teeth cleans off the film of food formed on the tooth surface thereby protecting it from demineralization. In young kids, brushing should be a supervised activity to see that the teeth get all the attention they need.</image:title>
</image:image>

<image:title>Blog - Fighting decay in baby teeth - You should have your baby’s first dental visit when their first tooth erupts. Your dentist will be able to guide you regarding tooth eruption and also see whether it is happening in a timely manner. In toddlers who already have some demineralization, your dentist might recommend tooth mousse to increase the calcium and phosphate in the local environment of the teeth and increase their mineral uptake. Prevention is better than cure but if some decay does happen it’s better to catch it early. Routine dental visits usually will prevent any infection from persisting long enough to cause discomfort to your child.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Fighting decay in baby teeth - Milk or formula pools in the mouth and forms a coating on the tooth surface which attracts bacteria, creating an acidic environment making teeth prone to decay. This is further aggravated with sweetened liquids. The teeth most commonly affected are incisors and molars. This pattern of tooth decay is called nursing bottle caries.</image:title>
</image:image>

<image:title>Blog - Fighting decay in baby teeth - Pacifiers are often used to soothe babies and calm them down. But if you give them pacifiers coated with honey or any sweetening agent, they pose a problem.</image:title>
<image:caption>The sugar leads to creation of local acidic environment around the teeth leading to their decalcification that is often seen as whitish or brownish spots on the teeth.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Fighting decay in baby teeth - Fluoride strengthens the tooth enamel by making it harder. Fluoride toothpastes increase the fluoride in the local environment of the teeth and thereby increase its uptake on the tooth surface. This makes the teeth more resistant to decay. For little babies less than 3 years of age who have a tendency to swallow the toothpaste use only a rice grain sized amount of tooth paste. After 3 years of age when they understand that tooth paste is not to be swallowed you can use a pea-sized amount till they reach 6 years of age.</image:title>

<image:caption>Cool or chill the teething ring in the refrigerator before use, the cold further acts to numb out the soreness of the gums. Avoid freezing the teething rings as they might cause more harm than good to your baby’s delicate gum pads. Use optimally sized teething rings, small enough to be easily handled by your baby but not small enough to be swallowed or aspirated. Avoid using teethers with liquids or gels within them, you don’t want to risk the liquid leaking out while your little one chews away at it.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Talking about Teething: Part II - Tips & Titbits - Extra cuddles are the best! This is something that goes without saying. Your little bunny is in discomfort so adding in on some extra time with their mamas and dadas goes a long way. They feel more cozy and comfy in their parent’s arms and anyone would feel better with a few hugs don’t you think? You try it and see how they go from irritable and fussy to warm and fuzzy :)</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Talking about Teething: Part II - Tips & Titbits - Teethers or teething rings are a great choice for your babies to chew on during their teething period. They have a tendency to gnaw on objects (also their parent’s fingers) when they’re teething. The light pressure of chewing relieves their sore gums.</image:title>
<image:caption>Another option is to use silicone gum massagers and gently apply pressure on the tender gums to soothe your baby.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Talking about Teething: Part II - Tips & Titbits - Now for toddlers who have a few teeth in their mouth you can also give them slices of apples, carrots or celery. <image:title>Blog - Talking about Teething: Part II - Tips & Titbits - At home teethers: One simple DIY teether is to roll a piece of gauze or a soft cloth, dip it in cold water or iced water and then squeeze out the excess water. These cool gauze rolls can then be stored in a airtight container in your refrigerator and you can give them to your babies when they’re chewing away at things. The cool roll will definitely comfort their sore gums.</image:title>
<image:caption>Pro tip: Do not freeze these rolls, cooling them is enough, we don’t want our babies frost bites from their teethers.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Talking about Teething: Part I - What happens when? - Did you know that sometimes your babies may be born with teeth? This often comes as a surprise for their mamas and dadas but it’s not a worrisome prospect.</image:title>
<image:caption>Teeth that are present at the time of birth are called Natal teeth whereas those which erupt within a month after birth are called Neonatal teeth. These teeth may pose a problem if they are mobile as there is a risk of aspiration. Another issue could be if the teeth are causing any discomfort during feeding. In either of these cases it’s better to visit your dentist and get these teeth removed. However if the teeth are firm and not causing a problem in feeding then they can be left as they are.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Talking about Teething: Part I - What happens when? - Here we’re sharing with you the normal eruption ages for all the primary (baby) teeth (courtesy of American Dental Association). Don’t get hassled if your baby’s teeth are not exactly following these ages, a little variation is only normal. But if you have any doubts regarding teething you can always consult your dentist.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Gum care for babies > Easy, step-wise approach - When babies are less than 6 months of age, they usually don’t have teeth but their gums need care too! At that age the gums are called gum pads, they are pink in colour and lie over the ridges of the upper and lower jaws hosting all the tooth buds of baby teeth. Even though teeth aren’t present in the mouth early on, our babies’ oral cavities are exposed to the external environment and need cleaning especially after feeding.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Gum care for babies > Easy, step-wise approach - Now you might wonder when this is to be done. Gum pads should be cleaned after every feed and most importantly before your baby sleeps at night. The idea behind cleaning their gum pads is to remove any residue of either breast milk or formula and clean out any bacterial film that might form on these residues. You can continue this gum care routine till all the baby teeth are in place which happens by 2 and a half years of age.</image:title>

<image:title>Why Aesthetix? - Clarity for Accuracy</image:title>
<image:caption>The predictability of any procedure increases through precision in the treatment process. Certain procedures like root canal treatment (endodontics) require great precision while working with minute structures. We have an in-house microscope which allows these structures to be viewed at a upto 25 x magnification thereby enhancing visualization and treatment efficacy. All procedures carried out at Aesthetix are also done under magnification either using the microscope or with magnification loupes. A plethora of treatment modalities are made more predictable when done under magnification</image:caption>

<image:title>Testimonials - My wife Prema (aged 78 years now) had a bitter experience in getting her dentures fixed. In 2016, it was fixed in Chennai. The lower one never stayed in position. I n the meantime we shifted to Pune. A neighbouring dentist said that the lower jaw bones do not permit the denture to stay in position and an implant will solve the problem. He made the implant with with two studs but made a mistake, the denture and the studs were mismatched. He again made another which resulted in displacement of one stud. One of our friends suggested that we get the advice of his dentist Dr Jayanto Mukherji of Mukherji’s Dental Clinic at Chembur, Mumbai who asked us to go to Dr Suvarna Nene of Aesthetix Dental Clinic, who is the best in Pune. We were pleasantly surprised to get a cheerful and helpful receptionist to Dr Nene when we went to the clinic. It is a clean, healthy clinic with all required facilities under one roof. The lower jaw denture is fixed with four studs and now Prema, after a gap of four years is able to enjoy her food. I am happy to see her smile back on her face. We wish all the best to Dr Nene and her team, particularly Dr Prachi who assisted her in Prema’s case in the trying lockdown period due to the Covid -19 pandemic.</image:title>

<image:title>Testimonials - I have been coming to Aesthetix for over a decade. The reason I keep coming back is: 1. I have bad teeth :P 2. I trust the doctors here (Dr Nene, Dr Khozema, Dr Aniruddha) . The reason I can smile (with my front teeth showing) is because there is a team of expert doctors I can rely on. I have always been very comfortable here even when I gag or freak out about the anaesthesia needle. Thank you for everything - my experience here has been great! I would especially like to thank Dr Khozema, Dr Nene and Dr Aniruddha Nene for all their support - I know my case has not been easy. The assistants have always been polite & helpful. A special mention to Manisha - she does a spectacular job of managing everything! Thank you!</image:title>

<image:title>Staff - I joined Aesthetix Dental Clinic in September 2018. I used to work in a small dental set-up before, but I learnt a lot after joining this clinic. I started with the basics of mixing alginate and now manage all cleaning and sterilization processes of the clinic. I work towards ensuring a clean environment in the clinic as I understand the importance of sanitation protocols in terms of infection control. I am interested in learning new techniques and enjoy working for here. Dr Nene is extremely particular about sterilization and disinfection in the clinic and has incorporated state of the art technology to ensure the optimum asepsis. I’m the last to join this practice and everyone has been considerate with helping me learn new things and I’m grateful for that!</image:title>

<image:title>Staff - I’m Aarti and I have been working at Aesthetix since 2016. I had worked with a dentist previously for about 2 years before I joined this clinic. When I started my work as a dental assistant here, I learnt a lot of things starting from becoming competent in handling different dental instruments and materials to my personal growth with development of soft skills which help me interact with both doctors and patients. I really love this job of assisting, I prefer it over any other job. I’m passionate about working as an assistant because of which my urge to learn more never fades away. I love assisting Orthodontic and Dental Implant cases primarily because there is a lot to learn in these fields and I know I have just brushed the surface as of now. I really look forward to coming to work, I have seen a difference in me since I started working here, I am a happier person! I enjoy working with everyone, we all have different personalities and that makes it fun working as a group. One of the most important things about assisting is to figure out the working style of each doctor, it’s an intuitive job that makes the entire work process seamless and pleasurable.</image:title>

<image:title>Staff - I’m Nivrutti and I’ve been a dental assistant at Aesthetix Dental cIinic since 14th Dec 1999. This is where I learnt the fundamentals of assisting in a dental setup, knowing what the doctor needs for each procedure. In these years working here I gained a ton of experience doing the A to Z of assisting! Not only do I enjoy assisting (except root canal work), I also find lab work interesting and fun! Our interactions with patients are good, they talk to us whether it’s their first visit or even a follow up. All of us working here have a good rapport. My motto is to keep all differences outside of the workplace and that sure helps in having healthy relations with my colleagues. As Dr Nene has been teaching implantology for so many years I have helped in arranging hands-on for all course participants and have made so many new acquaintances. The experience I cherish is traveling with Dr Nene and Dr Khozema for surgeries in various cities of India, I sat in an aeroplane for the very first time!! It has helped me improve professionally and has been an enriching experience meeting so many doctors throughout the country. I have been working directly with Dr Nene for more than 20 years, she is a one of a kind mentors and the bond we share is unique. I appreciate that she considers advice given by us as assistants as well and even puts it into action if she deems it appropriate. She also encouraged me to manufacture tongue retractors seeing I had a knack for it. She once came to my hometown once giving a holiday to the entire clinical staff, it’s something that will remain etched in my memory forever.</image:title>

<image:title>Staff - I’m Shyam and I’ve been working as a dental assistant Aesthetix since 2000 and working here has been an upward journey in terms of learning new techniques, handling new materials and implementing newer methods in work. I enjoy assisting Dr Khozema and I look up to his work ethic, he puts his heart and soul into his work which is naturally reflected in the satisfaction that patient feels. Over the years we have incorporated regular use of rubber dam and the microscope and I can see how that has refined not only the clinical outcomes but also the patient comfort. We always work with music in our room which keeps the mood light even while dealing with the ‘oh-so-scary’ root canals. Our patients are so used to having music playing that if we forget even once they make sure to ask for it. I also enjoy assisting Dr Nene in surgical procedures, every time I pick up something new. It’s inspiring to see her hard-working nature that has paved the way to such a successful clinical set-up. A lot of young dentists have been well-trained under her and Dr Khozema and now have budding practices of their own. Dr Nene has provided us with more than what we could ask for and I will be forever indebted. All the staff here is well tuned to one another that working together is a seamless process. I have the joy working in one of the most well-established dental set-ups in the country, I feel proud and humbled at the same time.</image:title>

<image:title>Staff - I’m Parveen and I have been a full time dental assistant at Aesthetix since 1998. I was very young and naïve when I started out, and this job was my first experience of the outside world, it doesn’t feel like a workspace but more like my home! I enjoy assisting doctors for composite fillings, especially those of the front teeth where shade matching is a challenge and love seeing how a tooth is carved out from a mere paste of materials. Working here for so many years I have developed close bonds with my colleagues. Nivrutti, Shyam and I grew in our jobs together and if any one person is away it feels like something is amiss. Dr Nene has been a mother figure to me, she’s taken care of all of us through our thick and thin. She has a heart of gold and treats even those who cannot always afford treatment. Assisting her is always a pleasure, seeing her suture is an absolute treat. Listening to her talk to patients, I’ve picked up a lot about not only dentistry but the importance of proper communication. It has helped me speak to patients over the years and its very endearing when the patients ask about my well-being. I’ve also learned about newer techniques and using newer materials since Dr Aniruddha has started working. Dr Khozema works seamlessly and when I assist him, the smile of satisfaction that the patient gives after finishing their treatment is something we all strive for.</image:title>

<image:title>Staff - I, Shivprasad, am a videographer and I have been documenting various surgical procedures for the past 5 years. I joined Aesthetix Dental Clinic two and a half years ago and have been recording dental implant surgeries, cyst removals, surgical extractions and various grafting procedures for the past 2 years. Even though I enjoy doing live videographic sessions (anatomical dissection), the technical aspect of this work is what I love the most. I also have experience in video editing and have now learnt to make shorter informative videos encompassing the most important aspects of the surgery. As Dr Nene has been lecturing in the field of surgical dental procedures, these shortened videos are an educational aid. Along with recording live surgeries, I have also picked up a few tips on dental assisting and do sometimes assist in some dental procedures. I like the work environment at Aesthetix and appreciate the fact that everyone works well together and are in harmony with one another. A funny incident I experienced post the Covid-19 lockdown was when we were all suited up with our personal protective overalls and one of our own staff members failed to recognise me. Gratification comes in different forms, one from our work and the other is the recognition of that work. Recently a patient gifted me a pen as a gesture of thanks and this is something that I will never forget!</image:title>

<image:title>Staff - I’m Manisha and I’ve been working at Aesthetix, handling the reception for the past 21 years. I enjoy a full day’s work and the best days are those when I’ve successfully completed a fairly tedious or difficult task. I’m eager to learn new techniques and like to keep myself up to date so that my work efficiency improves through the knowledge I’ve gained. I like to ensure things are done on time and I’m peaceful when the day ends without anything pending. Some of the best things about my job are my interactions with the patients and various topics that we discuss during their time in the reception. When they enquire about my well-being, it gives me a sense of recognition and satisfaction. My work environment is extremely friendly, we work and live like a big family. Dr Nene is extremely supportive and never lets any difficulty weigh over me. One of my fondest memories is when Dr Nene and Sapre ma’am came with me personally to pick out sarees as a part of my uniform, taking time out specially for me. This is something I will cherish forever.</image:title>
